South Bohemia
South Bohemia is generally assessed as to be the prettiest and the most cheerful region of the Czech Republic. Its curves, meandering rivers and blossoming meadows have something warm and feminine that delights the eye. Its history is linked with the immensely rich Lords of the Rose who edified their region with an endless quantity of fortified towns, Gothic fortresses, Renaissance castles, summer palaces and other architectural jewels. Until today you can see the result of their spirit of enterprise, which completed the natural wealth of South Bohemia with artificial ponds, dams, mountain roads and canals. But those giant works even embellished the landscape that still presents a very rural face. South Bohemia is known as the perfect place for active holidays: there are many little roads suitable for cycling, paths with signs for hiking, rivers for water sports, camps, etc.
Moreover, nearly every town hosts musical festivals, organizes traditional handicraft markets and commemorates local holidays. The Festival of Classical Music, which is held every summer in Cesky Krumluv already, obtained an international renomée. The town of Trebon organizes an interesting Festival of Short Films and Cartoons, Telc hosts the International Music Academy…
